Some of our clients have received a notice from a company offering to procure a copy of their real estate deed for a fee of $84.00.  The service is apparently real, but not really necessary nor a good deal. You can get a copy of your deed for free either online at your county registry website,  ( for those in the Lowell area) or in person or by mail from the registry (you might have to pay postage).  You can also get a certified copy for a small fee if you really want one, but it’s only a few dollars.  The letter from the service agency seems to be written in a way to make you think you have to comply and send the fee. If you have any questions about a recent real estate transaction – just call your attorney and ask. If you already have a copy of your deed, you don’t need to get another and you shouldn’t have to pay $84 to get one.
